California Flag
Entered the Union in 1850 as the 31st State; flag adopted in 1911, modified in
1953. Americans, in what was then Mexican territory, proclaimed the independence
of California on June 14, 1846. The banner of their "Bear Flag Republic" was
later adopted by the State.
